Sartorette MakerSpace

You will find Sartorette's MakerSpace Program in room 9 with MakerSpace Coordinator Chrisy Teil, our leader in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math) creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Every student attends MakerSpace with their class for 45 minutes of instruction each week with their classroom teacher attending too. Plus, thanks to our Home & School Club (HSC) and parent volunteers, we have lunchtime MakerSpace available for students every Friday.

What is a MakerSpace? MakerSpace is a place for making, learning, exploring and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools. The maker mindset is about creating something out of nothing and exploring your own interests in a way that helps prepare students with critical thinking skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). MakerSpace learning complements the education provided in the classroom and helps boost self-confidence. Some of the skills that are learned in a makerspace pertain to electronics, engineering, coding, and robotics. Our MakerSpace program includes Spheros, Snap Circuits, Hexbugs, “Make it & Take It”, Tinker Kits, Legos, Tinker Toys, wooden blocks, K’nex, PowerClix, Makey Makeys, and ephemeral art just to name a few! 

Where do we get our materials? We depend upon upcycled & new materials donated from our community to keep costs minimal, as well as support from our HSC to purchase tools and devices to power our creations.

What are the rules and expectations in MakerSpace?

  • Be creative, take risks, try something new, transform the materials.
  • Be respectful of the tools, materials & volunteers.
  • Keep the materials organized.
  • CLEAN UP, CLEAN UP, CLEAN UP!
  • Pay it forward! Teach others and share your learning.
  • If you don’t follow the MakerSpace rules and expectations, you will be asked to leave and need to earn the right to come back.
